This week I chopped it up with one of my favorite Clubhouse moderators Cassy Woodley of The Roaming Republic. She detailed her love of motorbikes abroad and how they haven’t always loved her back – accidents, stitches, terrible hospital visits, police abuse, extortion, arrests…ya’ll, A TIME. Thankfully, she hasn’t let her torrid experiences with police and disheartening medical care stop her from exploring the world on her terms. She’s turned her love of travel and its life changing (and saving) nature into a mission of fostering community with the dozens of travelers she curates exceptional experiences for with her travel group The Roaming Republic. She may have sold me on a group trip yall, tune in and see.
This week I spoke with KB of @millennialchannel about how we can use our travels to positively impact communities and economies around the world. We dove into dismantling colonial views of brown countries, working with communities to see how we travelers can be useful instead of assuming from our own points of reference, using travel as activism, sustainable travel and traveling being a soft power and political act. This is quite the conversation. Tune in.
This week is a full circle episode. I finally sat and talked with one of my travel inspirations, Marissa of Unicorninbk.com. Her blog and storytelling provided the representation I needed to believe travel was for me. We talk about how she got into travel, finding love through travel, travel wins, fails and lessons learned. Dive in.
It’s the holidays in the middle of a global pandemic. I’m happy to say I have had nothing but gratitude in my heart the last few weeks. This week, I’ve spent some time on the little things that have helped me leave a little good behind while I travel and/or made my life as a traveler much more easeful. None of them are expensive or difficult. They’re just a short collection of cherries on top of a good time. Dive in.
